The government has banned 43 mobile applications, mostly of Chinese origin, for being biased against India's sovereignty and security.
Of the 43 apps banned on Tuesday - most of them belong to the Chinese, four Chinese retail company, Alibaba Group.
New Delhi: The central government on Tuesday banned 43 more mobile apps. The government said it was blocking access to 43 mobile applications in India by users under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act.
Action has been taken against mobile applications involved in biased activities of India's sovereignty, integrity, defense, security and public order.
"The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Government of India today issued an order under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act blocking access to 43 mobile apps. The action has been taken on the basis of inputs related to these applications for engaging in biased activities related to India's sovereignty and integrity, India's defense, state security and public order.
"The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued an order to stop the blurring of these applications by users in India based on extensive reports received from the Home Ministry's Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center," a government press release said.
Some of these applications are owned by Chinese companies, including four, including China's retail giant, Alibaba Group. These apps include AliExpliers Mobile App, Alibaba Workbench, AliExpress - Smart Shopping, Better Living and Alipay Cashier.
It may be noted that the government had on June 29 and September 2 banned a number of applications in protest of India's sovereignty and integrity. Most of the banned apps were of Chinese origin.
