State's Most Polluted Area Vapi Reduces Pollution, Vadodara Now State's Most Polluted City

Yesterday Thursday was the last day of the 14th Assembly session of Gujarat. The CAG report was presented in the Assembly House. The CAG report criticized the government and the GPCB. It criticized the GPCB for not setting up a proper system to monitor polluted air. The CAG report revealed that the GPCB system monitors ambient air only at 82 stations in 14 cities. Other cities, industrial, mining areas are not monitored so there seems to be no control on pollution.

The CAG report revealed

that instead of increasing the structure in GPCB, 223 posts have been eliminated. GPCB has 105 vacancies since 2008. The CAG report also revealed that the GPCB is not taking any steps to fill up 17 percent of the vacant posts for environmental engineers and scientists.

Vadodara is currently the most polluted city in

the state, on the other hand, the report also revealed that the pollution has decreased in Vapi, the most polluted area of ​​the state. But worryingly, Vadodara has now become the most polluted city in the state. The pollution index in Vapi has come down from 88.09 to 79.95. The pollution index of Vadodara was 66.91 in 2009 which has increased to 89.09 in 2018. In Rajkot city too, the pollution index has increased from 66.76 to 70.62. Pollution has reduced in Vapi, Ankleshwar, Vatwa-Narol, Naroda-Odhav.

Inspection of only 1 thousand 506 petrol

Inspection of petrol pumps by Food-Civil Supply Corporation is deficient. The corporation has checked only 1 thousand 506 petrol pumps out of 33 thousand 854. 11 petrol pumps were selling adulterated fuel. It is concluded that the technical audit of the PUC center is also not done. In 2018-2019, 1 thousand 192 PUC centers were functioning against 2.52 crore vehicles. Norms were being followed in the management of the PUC center. Out of 78 PUC centers, 162 have been given notices or licenses suspended.
