The government has said that if there is a forum for complaints from millions of users, it will have to disclose who posted the wrong content.
Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday unveiled new guidelines for social media, OTT platforms and news websites. “Users against the misuse and abuse of social media should find a platform to resolve their complaints within the time limit,” he said. Companies should make arrangements for that.
Social media companies should have an official to listen to complaints and reveal their name. This officer must file a complaint within 15 days.
If the complaint is about nudity, the material attached to it should be removed within 24 hours. If you delete a social media user's content, you must provide sufficient reasons. You need to specify who posted the wrong content the first time.
It has become a platform to encourage those who spread violence "We have received a complaint that social media has become a platform to promote criminals, terrorists and perpetrators of violence," Prasad said. WhatsApp has 500 million users in India. Facebook has 41 crore users. Instagram has 21 million users and Twitter has 1.5 million. There have been complaints of social media abuse and fake news. This was a matter of concern. So our government has decided to prepare guidelines for such a platform.
New rules rules for social media.
- Social media companies should have a right to users' complaints and mention their names.
- The OPSC complaint must be resolved within 15 days. If Nudutu has a complaint, he must remove the content within 24 hours.
- These companies have to submit a report every month, how many complaints have been received and what action has been taken on them. Complaints should be dealt with within 24 hours and resolved within 15 days.
-If someone posts a rumor or false content, you have to say who gave this post or content for the first time.
- If you want to delete a social media user's content, you must also state the reason.
OTT and news websites should be given the opportunity to self-regulate twice.
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that crores of OTT platforms like digital media news portals have come up. People coming from the press have to follow the code of the Press Council. But there is no binding for digital media. Cables with TVs comply with the code under the Network Act, but there is no such rule for OTT platforms. The government has thought that there should be a single judicial system for every media platform. Everyone has to follow and manage some rules.

For that 50 questions were asked on OTT in both the houses. We then convened a meeting of OTT affiliates in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. We talked to them about self-regulation, but it didn't happen. At the second meeting we asked to make arrangements in 100 days, but it did not happen. We then asked to create an organization system for the media.
