Gandhinagar: The Holi festival is celebrated in a unique way by lighting the largest Holi in the state at Palaj village near Gandhinagar. This is the basis of the Holi year. Holi is prepared ten days in advance at Palaj village. In which the youth of the village bring wood from the garden and prepare Holi by making a wooden stone at a height of about twenty five feet.

Preparations have been started ten days in advance of Holi. The young men of the village bring wood from the garden and make a gull of about fifty-six feet in one place. The villagers bring garlands of mango, mahudo and raisin duda to light Holi. Mahakali Mata walks on the first priest cut of the temple and the devotees follow her with the sound of ‘Jai Mahakali’
The tradition of walking on burning embers
Phagni Sud Poonam Holi in Palaj village has special significance in lighting on the day of Holi. Lighting Holi and walking barefoot on its wrists is a years old tradition. I express my faith here for all those who will fulfill the wishes of those who walk on the edge. Surprisingly, drivers, from children to adults, walk barefoot on glowing limbs, but they don’t burn. This is a matter of faith for the people of the village and the tradition of their ancestors.
People come from home and abroad
Millions of devotees flocked to Palaj to witness the Holi celebrations. People from home and abroad come to Palaj village to see this unique tradition of Holi manifestation. The villagers say about this tradition that there is a temple of Mahakali Mataji in the village. Despite walking on embers due to his devotion, not a single devotee has suffered any minor injury till date. On the day of Holi, Holi is lit here at 7 pm. Before that the villagers are called to gather. In this village with a population of five thousand, the festival is celebrated by pampering at home on that day.
