He died at the age of 82 from shortness of breath during treatment. Many ghazals, poems, shayari of Khalil Dhantejvi are being remembered by many generations of the state.
Today, his death has left a lasting impression on the literary world. Khalil Dhantejvi, a native of Dhantej, Vadodara, was originally named Ismail Makrani. Khalil Sabe, who has read only four books, has also worked as a brilliant journalist in Vadodara. He received the Kavi Kalapi Award in 2004 and the Wali Gujarati Ghazal Award in 2013 and the Narasimha Mehta Award in 2019.
